Getting rid of stuff!

We have been inspired by a friend to get rid of something everyday during 2012. It is so easy to accumulate stuff and it would be good to reduce our stuff.

To make it more of a challenge we are having a major clean out to finish the year. For example we’ve gone through our books and we’re getting rid of over 100 and are handing down a whole lot of the girls’ clothes. (BTW, I had two copies of Gene Sharp’s very influential book the Politics of Nonviolent Action so if anybody in Newcastle would like a copy I’m happy to give it away to a good home.)

If we buy (or are given) something during the year, we have to get rid of one more thing than we gained. We also want to avoid sending as much to the land fill as possible, so part of the challenge will be to see how else it can be disposed of – recycling, free-cycling, given to an op shop etc.

Wish us luck!
